Eve Blau and Rafael Moneo jurors for M+ design competition

Eve Blau (adjunct professor of urban planning and design) and Rafael Moneo (Josep Lluis Sert professor of architecture) are among the distinguished jurors for the design competition for M+, Hong Kong’s future museum for visual culture. The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority has issued an open invitation to architectural practices in Hong Kong and worldwide to submit an Expression of Interest by October 15.
M+, scheduled for completion in 2017, is an ambitious project. Situated on the waterfront of the Victoria Harbour at the edge of a 35-acre park, the museum will be the hub for visual culture from the 20th and 21st century. In total, the West Kowloon Cultural district will comprise 17 core arts and cultural venues, creating interdisciplinary exchange between the visual arts and the performing arts in the city. The scale of M+ will be comparable to the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
The world-class jury, chaired by Moneo, also includes Kathy Halbreich, associate director of MOMA, and Uli Sigg, whose gift of nearly 1500 works of contemporary Chinese art will anchor the M+ collection. The design team will be appointed by summer 2013.
