This Friday, September 28, Michael Ezban (MLA I AP ’13) will be a panelist at DredgeFest NYC, a symposium about “the human acceleration of sediments and the technologies and techniques we’ve invented which manage it.” Ezban was invited based on research and design work he produced with Jana Vandergoot (MLA 1 AP ’13) on dredging and the production of public landscapes in the Great Lakes region. His panel, “Dredging and the Anthropocene,” will contextualize dredging within other sediment handling practices, and examine ways that humans act as geologic agents.
Dredgefest is a 2-day event that brings together officials, policymakers, designers, theorists, industry experts and the public. Organized by the Dredge Research Collaborative, it includes the symposium at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation on September 28 and a tour of active dredge sites in the N.Y. harbor. Other panelists at the symposium include Kate Orff (MLA ’97), Catherine Seavitt, and Eric Sanderson, director of the Manahatta Project.
