Jenny Frenchs ghost buildings

Jenny French (MArch ’11) is interested in the unbuilt building. She posits that there may be a “critically projective tool for contemporary production” in proposals and competition entries that were never realized. Her project for the Julia A. Appleton Traveling Fellowship, “Representation’s Ghost,” entailed visits to 15 unbuilt visionary architecture projects around the world “to solve the inequity of presence” between architectural drawings and built work. The results of her inquiry are on display in an exhibit in Gund through January 28, 2013 and on her website.
French received other exciting news this month when French 2D, the firm she founded with her sister Anda, was shortlisted for the 2013 MOMA PS1 Young Architects Program. The Architects Newspaper calls the program “one of the most visible platforms for emerging architects in the world.” French and the other finalists will present their proposals early in 2013.
