Michael Van Valkenburgh featured in Harvard Magazine

Michael Van Valkenburgh, Eliot Professor in Practice of Landscape Architecture, is featured in the November-December 2013 issue of Harvard Magazine.

Referring to Van Valkenburgh as “The Urban Landscaper,” writer and former editor of Harvard Design Magazine William Saunders suggests that he is the most celebrated landscape architect in America. As Van Valkenburgh and Saunders walked through the new Brooklyn Bridge Park, Van Valkenburgh explained some of the fascinating details of the park: “Within a week after we finished building this wetland, four types of ducks were using it. And all these plants, chosen because they could tolerate salt, survived after Hurricane Sandy covered them with 30 inches of salt water.”
