Sunday, September 15

View Hong Kong’s majestic skyline and architectural masterpieces from the water as a local design expert offers insight into the city’s architecture. This is a private tour exclusively for Harvard Design: Hong Kong guests.

3:30 - 6:00 PM M+ Museum / West Kowloon Cultural District - Master Plan Presentation followed by a reception, Hong Kong Maritime Museum, Central Ferry Pier Number 8

The West Kowloon Cultural District – the largest cultural initiative of its kind in the world – will establish a major centre for music, performing and visual arts on a dramatic harbour-front site in the heart of Hong Kong. Colin Ward, partner at Foster + Partners, will present the firm’s vision to integrate 30,000 square metres of arts education facilities with the everyday life of the city.

GSD Faculty Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron have been chosen to design M+, the new museum for visual culture focusing on 20th and 21st century art, design, architecture and the moving image, anchoring the budding cultural district in West Kowloon. Aric Chen, Curator of Design and Architecture, M+, will describe how the museum will transform the cultural life of the city while Edman Choy from Herzog and de Meuron will share the design for the new museum.

Opening remarks will be provided by Tianlong Jiao, Ph.D, The Dr. Frank Tsao Wen-king Chief Curator at the Hong Kong Maritime Museum. The Hong Kong Maritime Museum is located in a newly converted ferry terminal, with renovations finished in February 2013. During and after the reception, guests are invited to explore the museum on their own.
