SPLIT OPTION

 

Students who split divide their final semester of courses over two terms enrolled at part-time status. One semester’s tuition is charged for the two terms. The normal full-time tuition rate covers up to 24 units (Fall + Spring terms combined). Health service and insurance fees remain the same as when enrolled full-time; however, only full-time students are allowed to reside in Harvard’s residence halls.

In order to split, you must submit a Split Option Form to the Registrar's Office in advance of the:

6th semester for MArch I + MArch I AP students
2nd semester for MArch II students
The deadline for submitting the form is set by the Registrar's Office. Students will receive notification of the deadline and the latest policies regarding the split option from the registrar in December.

For MArch I and MArch I AP students, Thesis Prep is delayed from the 6th semester to the beginning of your 7th semester split. The typical split registration is:
Fall Term - Thesis Prep (4 units) + 4 units of electives
Spring Term - Thesis (12 units)
*Please note that general elective units may be taken in either semester but students who receive financial aid must register in a minimum of 8 units in the Fall semester.

MArch II students may take their final studio in either the fall or spring of the split semester year. MArch II students indicate which semester they will fulfill their final studio in on the Split Option Form.

 

International Students

International students are required in accord with federal student visa regulations to maintain full-time student status in all but their final semester. International students who split must enroll in 16 units in their next to last semester.

For MArch I and MArch I AP international students, the split registration is: MArch I and MArch I AP international students enroll in a total of 28 units which is four units above the normal full-time tuition rates. This results in a 1/4 more tuition during the split option year.

For MArch I and MArch I AP international students, the split registration is:
Fall Term - Thesis Prep (4 units) + 12 units of electives
Spring Term - Thesis (12 units)
For MArch II international students, the split registration is:
Fall Term - 16 units of electives
Spring Term - Studio Option (8 units)
or
Fall Term - 8 units of electives + Studio Option (8 units)
Spring Term - 4 units of electives
