December 2008:

Shelagh McCartney was invited as a guest critic in final thesis studios at Daniels at the University of Toronto.

Gareth Doherty presented a paper at the Right to Landscape Workshop organized by the Cambridge Centre for Landscape and People, Jesus College, University of Cambridge, UK, December 10, 2008 and a paper at the IASTE Conference in Oxford, UK, December 12, 2008.

Antonio Petrov is invited as a guest critic at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and the University of Illinois in Chicago (UIC).

Aylin Brigitte Yildirim receives a Penny White Award scholarship.

Zenovia Toloudi presents a paper entitle "Architectonic Brand Valuations using PICANICO: A Tag-Based Machine Learning" at the XII Congress of Ibero-American Society of Digital Graphics (SIGraDi 2008), Havana, Cuba,December 3, 2008.

Zenovia Toloudi receives Gerondelis Scholarship for Graduate Studies at Harvard.

Zenovia Toloudi is invited as a guest critic in final thesis studios at Parsons New School of Design in NY.

Teri Rueb receives an Prix Ars Electronica 2008 Award of Distinction for her project "Core Sample".

November 2008:

Dido Tsigaridi presents her paper "What viewing-angle is this place?" at the "Mobility, the City and STS" Workshop in the Technical University of Denmark.

Teri Rueb participates as panlelist in Conversation with Lars Muller, Harvard GSD, November 2008

Stephen Ramos presents a paper entitled "Large-Scale Trade Infrastructure as a Territorial Structuring Mechanism: The Case of Dubai's Jebel Ali Port and Industrial Complex" at the Port Cities and Networking in Global and Historic Contexts Workshop at Bryn Mawr College on November 16, 2008.

Stephanie Hurley speaks at the American Water Resources Association Annual Conference in New Orleans in November. The talk is entitled: "Design Scenarios for Low Impact Development: Ultra-Urban Watershed Scale Redevelopment Case Studies from the Charles River Watershed in Boston".

Zenovia Toloudi becomes a researcher in RMJM Research on Education and Integrated Practice, GSD.

June 2008:

Zenovia Toloudi presents her doctoral research in the Doctoral Student symposium in the 3rd International Conference on Design Computing and Cognition (DCC'08 or DCC 08), Atlanta, GA , June 21, 08.

Stephanie Hurley publishes an article in the Journal of Landscape Architecture, Construction, and Ecology (LAC).

Miwa Matsuo receives a Howard T. Fisher Prize for Geographic Information Science from Harvard University in June, 2008.

Antonio Petrov published an article on conceptualization of urban space a in L'Arca Edizioni Spa Issue No 238 "Dreams and Visions: Disillusion and Metanarrative".

Suzanne Lanyi Charles becomes a John R. Meyer Dissertation Fellow at the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University.

Suzanne Lanyi Charles is awarded a dissertation research grant by the Harvard University Real Estate Academic Initiative.

Stephen Ramos was named a 2008-2009 Research Fellow with the Dubai Initiative at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard´s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

 

April 2008:

Shelagh McCartney received a Completion Grant and was named a Canada Fellow from the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs – Canada Program.  She also received a research grant from the Real Estate Academic Initiative

Dido Tsigaridi presents her paper "Tom-Tom vs. Google Street-view: on spatial memory for urban navigation" at the Annual Meeting of the Association of American Geographers (AAG'08) in Boston.

Gareth Doherty presented a paper at the Instant Cities: Emergent Trends in Architecture and Urbanism in the Arab World Conference organized by the Center for the Study of Architecture in the Arab Region with the University of Sharjah, UAE, April 1, 2008. The paper, entitled "The Landscape of Dubai's Urbanism", was published in the conference proceedings.

Antonio Petrov presents a video installation with Lara Belkind as part of the Writing Cities conference (MIT-London School of Economics-Harvard) in collaboration with the New Factographers NF 01 "the chirping sidewalk" installation in Somerville.

Antonio Petrov translates a Peter Sloterdijk article "Foam City: About Urban Spatial Multitudes" for New Geographies Issue 0, Harvard University Press.

Antonio Petrov presents his paper "Churchscapes: Transformative Urbanism– Dynamics of Worship and New Forms of Place" at the research in progress conference at MIT History, Theory and Criticism of Art and Architecture (HTC).

 

March 2008:

Antonio Petrov receives a grant to publish his work on design methodologies from CCUR utilization research, College of Design, and the department of Architecture, Iowa State University.

 

February 2008:

Gareth Doherty participated in the Port Cities Workshop at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, sponsored by the Dubai School of Government and Harvard University, February 9, 2008.

Stephen Ramos presents a paper entitled "Mina Jebel Ali: New Port City Within a Port City" at the Port Cities Workshop at John F. Kennedy School of Government, sponsored by the Dubai School of Government and Harvard University on February 9, 2008.

 

January 2008:

Gareth Doherty gave a lecture entitled "Is Landscape Architecture a Tautology?" in the Architectural Association in London’s Landscape Urbanism program, January 10, 2008.

January OLPC rollout initiative: Jan Jungclaus spends winter recess in Mongolia together with Carla Gomez Monroy and Enkhmunkh Zurgaanjin to roll out OLPC´s (One Laptop per Child) first "Give one Get one" 20,000 laptops after intruducing the initiative to schools, industry and government during summer of 2007. Mongolia's president Enkhbayar committed to a nationwide implementation of the initiative in October 2007 in order to provide networked education to underpriviledged children, especially in remote regions of the country.
