Course Description

The seminar is designed as an introduction to the methodologies and disciplines that have shaped the field of architectural history and theory. We will probe critical perspectives on architecture's relation to aesthetics, society, and the environment as well as examine the enduring historical and epistemological significance of these perspectives. Topics include: autonomy, formalism, history to new historicism, phenomenology, semiotics, gender and psychoanalysis, ecology, the metropolis, the culture wars, technology and science.
