Student Employment
GSD students have the option to pursue employment while they are in school. However the availability of jobs can vary based on the individual student's situation. Many employers, though certainly not all, prefer to hire students who have received either Federal Work-Study (for US citizens or permanent residents) or the International Employment Award (for international students) as part of their financial assistance.
These two work awards pay a large portion of a student's salary, making it more cost effective to hire recipients of those awards. Work-Study students who secure a job must stop by the Office of Finanical Assistance for a Work-Study referral card. Similarly, International Employment Award recipients must also obtain an offical letter from the Office of Financial Assistance before starting a job. All additional payroll forms are provided by the hiring department.
Work Study job opportunities are often posted on GSD bulletin boards as well as Harvard University's Student Employment Office and the GSD Career Services website. All students should ask about any employment restrictions before accepting a job.
