Each year the GSD and Harvard University award prizes and fellowships that provide funds for students to travel as part of their studies. Award recipients have recently traveled to locations including the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Australia, Spain, China, and Ukraine. The Arthur W. Wheelwright Traveling Fellowship was most recently awarded to Carlos Arnaiz MArch '03 for his research entitled "Four Experiments in Urbanism: The Modern University City in Latin America," and Miho Mazereeuw MArch/MLA '02, who researched post-disaster architecture and urbanism in cities along the Pacific Ring of Fire, including Kobe (Japan), Banda Aceh (Indonesia), and Lima (Peru). Earlier recipients include Joshua Comaroff MArch/MLA '01, who traveled to South Africa for work on his project, "The Archaeology of Afro-Modernism." Cecilia Tham MArch I '02, traveled to Barcelona to research her project, "The Roundabout Spectacle," and Ker-Shing Ong MArch/MLA '02 conducted research in Shanghai for her project, "A City in Miniature."
