A candidate will be recommended for the Master in Architecture as a professional degree upon satisfactory completion of a minimum of 80 units. MArch II students pursue the following seven semester course of study:

Year One

First Term

  • 8 units Option Studio
  • 4 units GSD 9601 Proseminar
  • 8 units General Electives*

Second Term

  • 8 units Option Studio
  • 4 units GSD 7416 Practice as Project
  • 8 units General Electives*

Year Two, Track A: OPENStudio Program

Third Term

  • 8 units OPENStudio, Part I
  • 4 units GSD 3290 Teaching Techniques
  • 8 units General Electives*

Fourth Term

  • 12(or 8) units OPENStudio, Part II or Option Studio
  • 12(or 8) units General and/or Seminar Electives*

Year Two, Track B: Thesis

Third Term

  • 8 units Option Studio (Not eligible for studio abroad)
  • 4 units GSD 3290 Teaching Techniques
  • 8 units General Electives*

Fourth Term

  • 12 units GSD 9301 Independent Design Thesis

* A minimum of one half of the electives in the student’s curriculum must be from courses offered by the GSD. Students are eligible to fulfill electives through cross-registered courses at Harvard schools, MIT or the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts.
