Department of Urban Planning and Design
Kathryn Madden is an urban planner and Partner at Sasaki Associates. She has been a Design Critic at the Harvard Graduate School of Design since spring 2006. Her professional practice focuses on regeneration of urban districts and strengthening institutional campuses as centers for learning, health, and economic development. With over 25 years of experience, she provides a leadership role that integrates the client's needs, the community's perspective, and the creative energy of planning, design and technical professionals on complex projects. On all of her projects, the physical and cultural contexts are fundamental considerations in making future plans. With a focus on the politics of design, Ms. Madden works closely with stakeholders to develop common ground, resolve barriers to implementation, and inspire concerted action toward a shared vision. Ms. Madden graduated from MIT with dual master degrees in City Planning and Architectural Studies. Recent projects include the downtown plan for Greenville, South Carolina; East Baltimore Neighborhood Plan; downtown and riverfront plan for Reading, Pennsylvania; the Stamford Harborside development, and a campus plan for Fordham University.
