Description:
New production and distribution models are reshaping the contemporary design practice and the relationship between the consumer and the object of design. A two-day workshop will explore emerging prototyping, manufacturing and distribution models, and convey the complex factors that will shape future design objects. The workshop will begin with a summary of articles which Jonathan Olivares has written for Domus Magazine over the past two years, which cover the latest tendencies and technologies in furniture production, the evolution of technological objects, and new self-production methods of internet-enabled design studios. In the final component of the workshop, students will sketch future production scenarios or objects that draw and build on the survey of materials presented by Olivares. In this final exercise students will be free to address aspects of their existing work, or explore entirely new directions.
