GSD Course iSites: Known Oddities and Solutions

List of Course iSites October 2009 minor release with bugfixes and small enhancements.

Email does not appear in EmailBag tool
Instructor cannot access Course iSite
Instructor cannot add TAs/TFs
Instructor cannot view enrollment
No backwards compatibility with Course Toolkit slide carousel
"No matching sites found" error message
Some enrollees do not appear in enrollment list

Email does not appear in EmailBag tool
Issue: I am a teaching assistant and sent an email through the course email tool. I indicated that I wanted the message to also be displayed in the Emailbag tool, but nothing is showing up.
Explanation: The teaching assistant must be added as a "Site Administrator" for the course before emails sent through the course site can be displayed in the Emailbag tool.
Solution: Add the teaching assistant as a "Site Administrator" (and check "Also add to Teaching Staff") under Course Site Admin-->People and Site Access-->Manage the List of Site Administrators.

Instructor cannot access Course iSite
Issue: I am listed in the GSD Course Bulletin as a course instructor, but when I log in to my Course iSite with my HUID and PIN, I cannot access administrative controls.
Explanation: In some cases, the Registrar may not have course instructors' HUID data or other vital information, making it impossible for the database server to automatically grant the instructors Course iSite administrative access.
Solution: Contact GSD Human Resources (617-495-4323) to verify that you have an HUID and there is an official Harvard email address associated with your HUID.

Instructor cannot add TAs/TFs
Issue: I am a course instructor with administrative access to my Course iSite. When I try to add my teaching assistants to the Teaching Staff (Course Site Admin-->People and Site Access-->Class List-->Teaching Staff) or Site Administrators (Course Site Admin-->People and Access-->Site Administrators) using their HUIDs, Course iSites is unable to add them.
Explanation: Course iSites cannot add people whose University-wide privacy settings are set too high.
Solution: Your teaching assistants should contact the GSD Registrar to change their privacy settings.

Instructor cannot view enrollment
Issue: I am a course instructor or teaching assistant with administrative access to my Course iSite, but I can't view my course's official enrollment list (Course Site Admin-->People and Site Access-->Class List-->Enrollees).
Explanation: Only the primary course instructor can automatically view official course enrollment. Additional instructors or teaching assistants who have been granted administrative access will be able to view the course enrollment list only if permission is manually granted by checking the "View Enrollment" box under Course Site Admin-->People-->Site administrators.

No backwards compatibility with Course Toolkit slide carousel
Issue: When I used Course Toolkit last year, I had an ImageBase slide carousel. Can I migrate this into a Course iSites Slide Carousel?
Explanation: Currently, there is no way to do this.

"No matching sites found" error message
Issue: when trying to find my Course iSite by using the address http://courses.gsd.harvard.edu/<course-number>, I get a "No matching sites found" error message.
Explanation: The GSD Computer Resources Group has not implemented/updated the local re-director map for the current term.
Solution: Direct access to your course is always available using this format:
http://my.gsd.harvard.edu/course/gsd-<course-code>/<year>/<term>

Example:
GSD-1121 (Core Urban Planning Studio I)
http://my.gsd.harvard.edu/course/gsd-1121/2009/fall

Some enrollees do not appear in the enrollment list
Issue: Some students who have enrolled in my course do not appear in my course's official enrollment list
(Course Site Admin-->People and Site Access-->Class List-->Enrollees).
Solution: This might just be an oddity. Contact itg@gsd.harvard.edu so that someone can investigate the problem further. In the meantime, you can manually add enrollees who do not appear in the course's official enrollment list as guests
(Course Site Admin-->People and Site Access-->Class List-->Guests).
