LatinGSD Lecture: Mauricio Rocha, “Work and Practice”

Mauricio Rocha was born in 1965 in Mexico City. He studied architecture at “Max Cetto Workshop” at the School of Architecture at UNAM (National Autonmous University of Mexico). He was recently selected as “Emerging Voices 2014” at the Architectural League of New York.

Throughout 20 years of professional practice he has not only developed multi scalar projects within the public and the private domains, but he has also manged to alternate these with ephemeral architectural interventions in art exhibitions as well as in museology. He’s received prizes in multiple occasions, among them: First Prize and Gold Medal in the Bienal de Arquitectura Mexicana, twice as well as in the Bienal Panamericana and Iberoamericana, among other international recognitions.

His work has been exhibited in Mexico, New York, Brazil, Venice and Torino, among other cities and countries. He is a fellow and current juror for the Arts Comission of the FONCA (Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes), as well as other institutions, competitions, and Bienales. Since 2011 he has been a number academic of the National Academy of Architecture.

He has taught in several Universities in Mexico City and has offered lectures in several Mexican, South American, American and European cities. Some of his projects form part of the Centre Pompidou collection in Paris. His work has been published and distributed in different parts of the world and in magazines such as Domus, 10×10 Phaidon, Escala, among others. In 2011 his work appears published under:  “Mauricio Rocha Taller de Arquitectura”.
