RODRIGO PEREZ DE ARCE “Chile: Architecture and the Public Domain” A Subjective Review

A recent seminar at Columbia University posed the question about the public significance –and consequence- of recent architecture in Chile. By amplifying the issue of the public in relation to local circumstances in this occasion, it will become possible to look more closely at Chile’s diverse and fragile urban sites. The presentation will include case studies such as ritual spaces, informal resorts, a contested waterfront, a converted prison, and other scenarios. It is subjective because it represents a personal viewpoint: such subjectivity does not preclude engagement or sharing it only makes explicit our provisional judgments.
