Student Info Session for FHLB Affordable Housing Development Competition

The 14th Annual Greater Boston Affordable Housing Development Competition AHDC is open to graduate students interested in architecture, planning, finance, and policy. Student teams are paired with local developers to create an affordable housing proposal that covers issues of design, community engagement, sustainability, and finance. At least two Boston-area schools must be represented on each team, providing participants an opportunity to work with their peers from other universities.
In addition to their developer sponsor, teams are paired with design and finance mentors, and will have access to professionals in related fields like sustainable building technologies and housing law.
The competition is sponsored by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston, along with the Boston Society of Architects/AIA, Kevin P. Martin & Associates; ICON Architecture, Inc.; and Citizens’ Housing and Planning Association. The top three proposals will split prizes of $10,000, $6,000 and $3,000, respectively, with their developers.
Two information sessions will be held where students can learn more about the competition, meet other interested students, and begin to form teams. These sessions will be held at Harvard and MIT the week of February 3rd. The GSD information session will be held that Monday, February 3, 6-8 pm, in Room 318 at the GSD, 48 Quincy Street. The MIT information session will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 6-8 pm, in Room 7-429 (Long Lounge) in Building 7. Dinner will be provided, and past program participants and sponsors will be available to answer questions about time commitment, workload, and networking/employment value.
