sauerbruch hutton: sense and sensuality   1 2 3 4

October 6 - November 16, 2005

saurbruch hutton are based in Berlin and London and directed by Matthias Sauerbruch and Louisa Hutton. They are known for their environmental consciousness in design and ability to create forms that are logical yet appealing to the people who inhabit their buildings. Their recent project, the German Federal Environmental Agency in Dessau, required that they achieve a 50% increase in energy efficiency than currently stipulated by law. This challenge has proven their capability in sustainable design, while also illustrating their ability to incorporate visually compelling buildings through bold and engaging color.

The exhibition shows contextual views of twelve buildings—built or in the process of being constructed—as well as more detailed conceptual and technical explanation of one of the most recently completed works, the Federal Environmental Agency in Dessau. A wall of color running the length of the gallery has been specially conceived for the exhibition.

Matthias Sauerbruch and Louisa Hutton are the Fall 2005 Kenzo Tange Visiting Design Critics at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. saurbruch hutton were responsible for curating the exhibition in collaboration with the Department of Exhibitions and Department of Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
