| Brownfields Gray Waters Reclaimed! | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | |
October 25 - November 25, 2001
This exhibition documents the urgent and yet long-term nature of the enterprise of brown fields and gray waters—sites and water bodies that by virtue of their past industrial production uses, are not physically degraded, environmentally disturbed, and chemically contaminated—and lays out a record of the reclamation process, technological thinking, and design practice actively in use on such public sites. The reclamation projects of the sites shown in this exhibition communicate technological issues of concern and dispel myths surrounding the toxic nature of these degraded sites and water bodies. Finally, by presenting examples of conceptual design ideas and site proposals, the intention is to stimulate a professional and public dialogue concerning the range of possibilities that may exist for such sites in the future.
This exhibition was organized and curated by a team comprised of
George Hargreaves, FASLA, Peter Louis Hornbeck Professor in Practice;
Niall Kirkwood, Professor of Landscape Architecture Technology; Jade
Cummings, and Todd Gilens. The Penny White Students Projects Fund
funded the research, travel, and preparation of materials for part
of the exhibition.
