Inhabiting Infrastructure   1 2 3 4

Febuary 2 - March 21, 2004

In our current investigations of urbanism, the reclamation of infrastructure from the netherworld of functionalism offers new ways of conceptualizing urban and suburban landscapes and fosters the development of more complex hybrid typologies. Formerly monofunctional engineering plants for power generation or sewage treatment are being opened up to include public occupation of different kinds. In some instances, whole districts have been designed with the infrastructure of water management and moving serving as their public open space. These projects demonstrate a different kind of efficiency, as major public infrastructure is required to serve the public in a multi-layered way.

This exhibition was organized by Elizabeth Mossop, Director of Masters of Landscape Architecture Programs, GSD.
