Faculty Planning is Harvard Graduate School of Design’s office for faculty affairs. Working with the School’s academic leadership, we are committed to building an outstanding faculty and supporting the creation of an environment where GSD’s gifted designers, scholars, and teachers can do their best work. We provide information and facilitation for appointments, promotions, professional development opportunities, leaves, retirement, visas, and other aspects of academic life. We manage faculty searches and the junior faculty mentorship program, and we also provide support for non-faculty academic appointments including post docs and research associates.
We are working to make this website a central repository for information about the policies, procedures, and resources important to the GSD’s faculty community, and will be adding and updating information throughout the year. We welcome your questions and feedback at any time! Please visit the GSD Resource Center to view all Faculty Planning resources. Links to university-wide resources for faculty are listed below.
The Office of Faculty Development & Diversity, Harvard’s central faculty affairs office, provides information on faculty benefits, parental leave, child care, diversity policies, work/life programs, housing resources, and more.
The Title IX Office contains information pursuant to Harvard’s University-wide Sexual and Gender-Based Harassment Policy.
The Harvard International Office (HIO) provides information on a wide range of topics, including immigration issues (work permits, travel), financial questions, social and cultural differences, and other resources at Harvard and in the community.
Harvard Library’s Office for Scholarly Communication spearheads campus-wide initiatives to open, share, and preserve scholarship.
In carrying out our mission, we also collaborate with Associate Dean for Academic Affairs K. Michael Hays and Executive Dean Patricia Roberts.
