Document Your Place-Based Data Collection

This Tool Requires Microsoft Internet Explorer

This tool will help you prepare a documentation file for a dataset or a collection of data. The file produced will help make the GSD's Collection of Place-Based Data more easily searched, thematically, temporally and spatially. Our collection is concerned primarily with GIS data, CAD Models and Site Photos. For more information about this project, see What / How to Contribute to the GSD's Collection of Place-Based Data. This form is part of the Harvard Graduate School of Design Initiative to Preserve Place-Based Data Collections. The best way to be part of a great environment is to contribute something positive. So take a few minutes to document your data!!!!

How to do it!:

  1. Mouse over the form fields below for a description of what values can should be entered.
  2. Fill out the form to the best of your ability,
  3. Use the Preview/Save button at the bottom to preview your documentation in a new window
  4. Use the File->Save-As button in the new window to save the file as a Text Format document named metadata.txt as a Unicode format file in the same folder with the subject data.
  5. Enjoy an information-rich, collaborative environment!

Submittal instructions

  1. Fill out this form for a folder containing place-based data.
  2. Click Save/Preview to see your structured metadata file
  3. Use the File->Save As button to save the new file as an html document document named metadata.htm at the top level of the folder.
  4. Enjoy an information-rich environment!
