Update Your Virus Definitions

(from the Symantec website )

  1. Click the desktop or the Finder icon in the Dock to be in the Finder. On the menu bar, click Go > Applications > Norton Solutions > Live Update.
  2. Open the Norton Solutions folder.
  3. Double-click LiveUpdate.

  4. Click The "Update Everything Now" button.

  5. Enter your Local Administrator password in the Authenticate window, and then click OK.
  6. When LiveUpdate completes updating, the LiveUpdate summary window appears. You may now quit LiveUpdate.
  7. Run LiveUpdate again to ensure that you have all available updates.

When you click "Update Everything Now," LiveUpdate connects to the Symantec update server. If you are currently connected to the Internet, then the update process will proceed automatically. If you are not connected to the Internet, you either will be automatically connected (if your computer preferences are set up for that), or you will see a message stating that no connection was available. In that case, first connect to the Internet and then run LiveUpdate.

Software Update in Apple Menu

In addition to releasing new versions of the system software at regular intervals, Apple also releases a stream of free software updates to enrich your computing experience. Mac OS X automatically checks weekly for software updates provided you have an internet connection.

You can choose a different schedule, or check manually if you don't have a continuous Internet connection. If Software Update finds an item to download, it appears in a list. Click on an item to get a description before downloading it. If you see updates that you will never use, such as a language you don't speak or drivers for a printer you don't own, choose Make Inactive from the Update menu.

To get updates immediately, follow these steps:

  1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu.
  2. Choose Software Update from the View menu.
  3. Click Update Now.
  4. Select the items you want to install, then click Install.
  5. Enter an Admin user name and password.
  6. After the update is complete, restart the computer if necessary.
