The GSD maintains a mailing list server for students staff, and faculty.

How to use a Mailing List

A Mailing List is a group of e-mail addresses that can be sent a single message. For example, if we create a mailing list called

autocad-users-l

and the subscribers are

fred@gsd.harvard.edu
james@gsd.harvard.edu
mary@gsd.harvard.edu

any e-mail message sent to the address "autocad-users-l@gsd.harvard.edu" is automatically sent to Mary, James, and Fred. The "-l" at the end of the list name is a convention that tells users that this is a list address, not a single person's address.

Main GSD Mailing Lists

The four main lists at the GSD include:

• student-announce-l : a closed list for announcements to all students.
• staff-announce-l : a closed list for staff-only announcements
• faculty-announce-l : a closed list for faculty-only announcements
• gsd-announce : a closed list for official GSD and Harvard announcements

(An open list allows anyone to subscribe, unsubscribe and post. A closed list requires permission from the list owner for these action.)

Only staff and faculty may post to the student-, staff-, and faculty- announce lists.

Students may also benefit from email-discussion lists and distribution lists associated with courses at the GSD, using the iCommons course management tools

All GSD students also have access to the Students.GSD interactive website, with forums for posting and responding to student-to-student communications, such as questions about GSD resources, lost and found and 'Wanted' announcements, etc.

NOTE: All lists reject posts from any address not subscribed to the list. SOme may have limitations on the size of messages and kinds of attachments.

Why am I automatically subscribed to some lists?

All GSD users are automatically subscribed to one or more lists by default. For example, students are subscribed to the list "student-announce-l" in order to receive announcements.

It is possible that you may not be permitted to drop a subscription, depending on GSD policy.
