LCD Projectors

The GSD has equipped all classrooms, including room 112 and SR 104, with LCD projectors for use with computers and VCRs.

  • Piper Auditorium has a high-intensity long-lens projector which can fill the south wall of Piper with an image when projected from the projection booth; it can also be focused on the drop-down screen for viewing from the risers (steps), or the large front screen
. The wire for the projector is extended to the podium at the foot of the risers, and the front podium. Remember that the previous user of Piper may have changed the wiring configuration inadvertently or otherwise.

All of this equipment is compatible with MAC and PC laptops with XGA output (1024 x 768), and with the rolling cart computers. Be sure to practice setting up and using any projector well in advance before you need it in front of an audience. If you have questions, please contact helpdesk or Presentation Services well in advance of your need.

Note: Slide projectors and VCR/monitors are available through Building Services. Building Services is located in the basement of Gund Hall, call 617-495-2515 for more information.

  5. Focus and zoom are manual, at the lens of the projector.
  6. After presenting: turn off and power down the projector. Epson projectors stay on after they are shut off and need to be unplugged fron the power source. Press lamp power off. When POWER OFF appears on the screen, press POWER OFF again.

Troubleshooting

No Image:

  • check power cables of the projector and the computer
  • are you using VGA out and Computer Input 1?
  • if no light at all, lamp could be burned out. Contact Helpdesk.

Poor Image:

  • Discolored (all green or red background)? Look for a broken VGA cable connector - bent pins. Contact Helpdesk.
  • Image cut off? Check computer screen resoltion. All GSD projectors are 1024 x 768 resolution.
  • Fuzzy image? remove the lens cap or adjust focus by twisting lens assembly.

General:

  • If you have any problems, make sure you have re-booted once with all the cables in place.
  • Some laptops, need you to press one of the 'F' keys to make it send a signal out the VGA port.
  • If you are using a battery-powered laptop, make sure there is sufficent power to operate the laptop.
  • Some laptops don't have enough power to drive the projector, so you may have to use the Extron Video Amplifier (small gray box with power supply.) This amplifies the signal, and also provides two outputs, so you can drive both the projector and a monitor. (Useful if you have a desktop, rather than a laptop computer.)
