Map a Network Drive: OSX

This page describes how to map a drive on OSX; so you can connect to 'DesignApps' for software, or to 'terra' for your home directory and other resources. DesignApps is where you'll find all software installers, including KeyServer, and others. Terra has your 'home directory', and misc file storage space


(N.B. Note the difference in location: terra.gsd.harvard.edu vs designapps.design.harvard.edu)
  1. Finder > Connect to Server
  2. Enter address - "smb://designapps.design.harvard.edu/apps" (for software) or "smb://terra.gsd.harvard.edu/username" (for other misc. resources)
  3. Enter password
  4. Open drive
  5. Disconnect
  1. In the Finder, click the Go menu, select Connect to Server.

  2. For Server Address , enter smb://designapps.design.harvard.edu/apps,
    or smb://terra.gsd.harvard.edu/username, where username is your GSD username,
    then click Connect.

  3. Enter your GSD windows username and password and click OK.

    (It's OK to check 'Remember this password.." ON YOUR OWN COMPUTER - but not on a public machine!)
  4. A new icon will appear on your desktop and in your finder sidebar - that is your network drive. Double-click on the icon to open and use the drive.

  5. Remember to disconnect your network drive when finished working on a public computer! To disconnect your network drive: drag your network drive icon to the Trash can or right-click it and choose eject.
