Student Web Publishing at GSD

Responsible for editing the main GSD website? See Editing the GSD Website instead.

Your Long-Term Web Identity

Your GSD web publishing privileges last only as long as you are enrolled in the GSD. In most instances, this means your website will disappear with your computer account when you graduate.

As a budding design professional, you may want a web address that you can put onto your business card, or resume. We suggest that you make yourself a web space at your favorite private internet service provider for your long term personal and professional use.

Restrictions

The GSD Computer Resources Group has limited space for student data, and limited resources for handling requests to see student web pages. In most cases there will be no problem with material being published that is study-related. The Computer Resources Group does, however, reserve the right to restrict web access when circumstances dictate. For personal information such as portfolio materials that you may want on-line after you graduate, consider buying web space at online web hosting companies.

Your GSD Web Space

Your public_html directory is located in your terra account (your home directory). If you put files inside your public_html directory, they are published on the Web.

If you just made puppies.htm and saved it within your public_html folder, you can find it at:

http://www.gsd.harvard.edu/~username/puppies.htm

(note: anywhere you see username, replace it with your own gsd username (the part of your email address before the @gsd.harvard.edu)

There is no access to PHP or cgi-bin in your GSD web space.
