GSD Alumni and Friends

Rethinking Montreal: Sensorial Urbanism

With the generous assistance of the Canadian Center for Architecture, the GSD held a reception for students, alumni, and guests at the CCA in Montreal.  Founding Director and Chair of the Board of Trustees, Phyllis Lambert, welcomed over 50 guests to the CCA for this special event, along with Mirko Zardini, Design Critic in Urban Planning and Design Professor, and the students enrolled in the course, “Rethinking Montreal:  Sensorial Urbanism.”   Professor Zardini spoke to the audience briefly describing the purpose of the studio option, the design challenges presented, and the background brought by the dozen students enrolled.  Alex Krieger, Professor in Practice of Urban Design, then thanked guests for attending and for their interest in the GSD.  He explained the cross-disciplinary purpose of this type of course and the educational challenges and opportunities they present at the GSD through this classic method of teaching design.

An interested audience  looks on as Mirko Zardini, Design Critic in Urban Planning and Design, describes the studio option “Rethinking Montreal:  Sensorial Urbanism.”  This studio explores possible strategies and forms for the expansion into the Cabot Square area while providing opportunity for the use, critique, and adaptation of the design techniques introduced to Montreal in the 1960s.
