Adjunct Professor
Architectural Freehand Drawing
A part-time, longer-term senior faculty position at the level of Adjunct Professor is available for a person qualified to offer graduate-level instruction in architectural drawing, starting in the fall of 2008 or later. The person holding this position will be responsible for teaching a required workshop course that emphasizes line drawing as a means to articulate and communicate architectural concepts. Candidates should be qualified to demonstrate techniques for translating freehand perspectives into two- and three-dimensional orthographic sketches and to teach students to draw accurately and succinctly using the lineaments of buildings, architectural details, spaces and landscapes as a basis for drawing from memory and imagination. Preference will be given to candidates showing demonstrated achievement in the teaching and practice of the aforementioned techniques. The teaching obligations, in the fall term, would be for one four-hour class per week. This position may also include teaching in core studio, if the successful candidate is qualified to do so. Weekly airfare and housing allowances are available for out-of-town candidates.

Tenured Senior Professor
Urban Planning
The Harvard University Graduate School of Design invites applications for a tenured senior professor in urban planning position, to begin Fall 2008 or earlier. The appointment will be made at the level of Professor, which is a full-time tenured position, or at the level of Professor in Practice, which is a part-time tenured position requiring the maintenance of a professional urban planning practice. The successful candidate for the full-time professor position will be expected to teach graduate-level lecture, seminar, and studio courses and conduct research in urban planning for the built environment. A Ph.D. in urban planning is preferred, although candidates with a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related discipline or field with a demonstrated focus and background in urban planning will also be considered. The successful candidate for the part-time professor in practice position will be expected to teach graduate-level lecture, seminar, and studio courses in urban planning for the built environment. A graduate-level degree in urban planning is preferred, although candidates with an equivalent graduate degree in a related discipline or field with a demonstrated focus and background in urban planning will also be considered.

Landscape Architectural Planning
An Assistant or Associate Professor position is available beginning in academic year 2007-08 or later for a person qualified to offer graduate-level studio instruction in landscape architectural planning and a secondary specialty, such as theory, representation or technology. This full-time position may be filled for a fixed initial term, normally of four years, with responsibilities for teaching, scholarship, and administration. Candidates should have demonstrated excellence in landscape architectural planning as well as some teaching and professional practice experience.

These full-time voting faculty positions may be filled for a fixed initial term, normally of four years, with responsibilities for teaching, scholarship, and administration. Candidates should have some teaching experience and their creative work in design, scholarship or professional practice, or a combination thereof, should indicate strong promise of creative achievement in the field.
One or more adjunct associate professor positions are available beginning in academic year 2007-2008 for persons qualified to offer graduate-level instruction in architectural design. Adjunct associate professor is normally a half-time faculty position and requires the maintenance of an active outside practice or research activities. These positions may be filled for a fixed initial term, normally of five years with the possibility of renewal for a total term of up to ten years, with responsibilities for studio teaching and administration. Candidates should have substantial teaching experience and professional accomplishments and their creative work in design, scholarship or professional practice, or a combination thereof, should indicate strong promise of creative achievement in the field.

Adjunct associate professor is normally a half-time faculty position at the associate professor level and requires the maintenance of an active outside practice or research activities. Candidates will be expected to teach graduate-level lecture and planning studio courses in core subjects of urban planning and the built environment. A professional degree in urban planning or a related field, along with at least five years experience practicing in the field of urban planning, are required.
