Engage – reflect – change – renew – connect – learn – explore
Loeb Fellows use words like these to describe their unique experience at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. The Fellows represent the broadest spectrum of accomplished design practitioners from countries around the world. In the middle of promising careers shaping the built and natural environment, they step away from their hectic professional lives. For one academic year, they take classes at the GSD and throughout Harvard’s vast network of professional and academic schools. They read, write, talk with professors, mentor students and expand their horizons. Their goals: to become better at their craft, to strengthen their leadership skills, and to change the world with their unique perspectives.
The Loeb Fellowship offers multiple benefits:
- Unparalleled access to resources at Harvard and MIT
- A comfortable stipend and a residence in Cambridge.
- 9 classmates with diverse professional interests, career trajectories and practitioner skills from all over the U.S. and the world.
- Time to reflect, consolidate experience, explore new interests and chart the next phase of your career.
- A worldwide network of colleagues and collaborators.
Intentional and serendipitous encounters provide opportunity for unhurried, thoughtful conversations that often bring the greatest learning and are so rare in normal professional life. The learning is nonstop, the new insights are constant, and the experiences sink into the mind and guide future practice. Many classmates become lifelong friends.
There is no such thing as a former Loeb Fellow. After the year in residence the fellows enter a worldwide alumni network with over 400, engaged, thoughtful professionals. Symposia, travel, conferences, and other events each year keep this network active and connected. Throughout their careers Fellows seek each other out for good counsel and professional collaboration.
