Sketch by Josep Lluís Sert

"... designed for or used by Muslim communities..."

The decade which preceded the establishment of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture was one in which a number of Western architects were invited to the Muslim world to undertake a variety of design projects or to participate in competitions. Drawn from the Alison + Peter Smithson Archive and from the Josep Lluís Sert Collection are materials which document both architectural and urban design work in Iran, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
