Web-Based Course Tool (CANVAS)

Canvas is the new Harvard-wide web-based Learning Management System that will replace Course iSites, a home grown Harvard system that has been adapted by the Graduate School of Design (GSD) for over ten years. The Canvas platform will enable faculty, teaching fellows, and staff to develop and administer course websites with flexibility and ease. As of the fall term in 2015, the GSD will be fully migrated over to Canvas as the official online resource to advance pedagogy and provide multiple means of representation in supporting the curriculum.

All GSD courses offered each term starting in fall 2015 will have a Canvas web presence automatically created for the faculty’s use. Canvas provides features that empower instructors and their teaching assistants to create robust course content, facilitate knowledge sharing and communication, encourage active engagement and interaction, enable assignment and submission of class work, and function as a single portal to all course-related resources.
