Anne Tyng's lecture, with its dual title "Beaux Arts Complexity to Bauhaus Simplicity c.1940s; Where is Architecture Going Today," addresses her time at the GSD, her research in geometry, and her speculations on the future of the discipline. This lecture was part of the inaugural event for the GSD's celebration of its 75th anniversary. 10/13/11

Way back in 1960, the last of my 4 graduate years at Robinson Hall, someone, perhaps Serge Chermeyeff, urged me to copy a utopian housing scheme design to Louis Kahn's office for his reaction. The design was for prefabricated housing nestled on platforms within a giant space frame proposed for Parker Hill, Boston. Much to my astonishment, a handwritten, thoughtful reply from Anne Tyng arrived - she had interrupted her undoubtedly full schedule to treat a student from HGSD with respect and encouragement. Thanks again, Anne!
