This summer, The Architectural League and the Center for an Urban Future have launched a design study to articulate new architectural, financial, and programmatic possibilities that will unlock the potential of the NYC branch libraries to be essential neighborhood-based resource centers.

An interdisciplinary team including Daniel Hernandez, (LF ’98) of Topoloty LLC and Michael Murphy (MArch ‘11), executive director of MASS Design Group, is among the 5 winning teams selected to participate in the design study. Learn more on the ArchLeague website.

The Nyanza Superfund site was a giant lemon for the town of Ashland, Massachusetts, but Dan Borelli (MDes ’12 in Art, Design and the Public Domain) is intent on making lemonade. He’s just received an ArtPlace grant to create an oral and visual history of the community’s relationship with the site, and a light and landscape installation.

Arielle Assouline-Lichten (MArch ’13), co-instigator of the Denise Scott Brown Pritzker petition, has been selected to participate in “OfficeUS”, a functioning architectural firm that is the American Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale

Michael Adlerstein LF '86, the assistant secretary-general in charge of the historic renovation of the UN Headquarters, hosted members of the Sert Council for a private tour of the newly unveiled landmark.

As chair of the GSD Alumni Council, Michael's ties to the School are strong. Since graduating in 1978, he has worked at various design offices, including Frank O. Gehry and Associates, before founding his own practice, Lehrer Architects, in 1985.
