Edward Baum (MArch '64) receives American Architecture Award

Dec 21, 2011

A design by Edward M. Baum (MArch ’64) has received a prestigious 2011 American Architecture Award. The awards are given by the Chicago Athenaeum and the European Centre for Architecture Art and Design.

The project, a housing prototype for those of very modest means, offers home ownership to working class families by providing dwellings at mortgage payments similar to current rental rates. In addition to low costs, the design provides security for private open space and two vehicles, energy efficiency, internal flexibility, and residential character.

Baum’s project also received a national design award from the journal Residential Architect earlier in the year.
