On June 11-12, the GSD was home to a United Nations Expert Group Meeting (EGM) entitled “Women’s Economic Empowerment: A Critical Element for Prosperous Cities.” The global gathering, hosted by Assistant Professor of Urban Planning Michael Hooper, brought together key urban policymakers and the leadership of grassroots women’s organizations to forge a policy platform for addressing women’s economic empowerment in cities.


The theory section of the Buenos Aires-based PLOT magazine featured the South America Project (SAP) in its most recent issue. The magazine presents an overview of the SAP conference held at the GSD last October, and highlights the work in progress of the research network.

Reed/Hilderbrand, the firm of Professor of Landscape Architecture Gary Hilderbrand, is the recipient of three 2012 Boston Society of Landscape Architects (BSLA) design awards.

Professor of Architecture Rafael Moneo has been awarded Spain's prestigious Principe de Asturias prize for his "serene and meticulously tidy architecture." The prize is given to an individual or institution whose work "constitutes a significant contribution to mankind's culture heritage." Read more.
