GSD mourns the passing of Luis Moreno Mansilla and Manuel de Solà-MoralesApr 06, 2012
It is with enormous sadness that we announce the recent deaths of Luis Moreno Mansilla and Manuel de Solà-Morales. The unexpectedness of both passings adds to the shock of a great loss.
Manuel, who studied at the GSD under Josep Lluis Sert, has through the years been an enormous supporter of the School. He was recently invited to keynote lecture in the Conditions and Projections conference in February, but was unable to join us due to his failing health. Luis and his partner Emilio Tuñón had participated in the option studios reviews in December 2011 and also taught at the GSD in 2006.
The GSD, Spain, and in fact, the world of architects has lost two of its most extraordinary contributors. Professor Rafael Moneo was very close to both, Luis as a student and Manuel as a colleague, and has published an obituary for Luis in El Pais, which we share below. Professor Joan Busquets has written a tribute to his friend and colleague, Manuel, which we have also translated and shared.

We will certainly feel his absence. Continue reading...

For Manuel, urbanism was a question of ideas and their rigorous application to each specific reality. Continue reading...
