GSD Students join the WorldWide StorefrontMay 29, 2014
The Circus for Construction team–Ashley Mendelsohn (MDesS '14) and Craig Reschke (MLA '15), along with Ann Lui, Larisa Ovalles and Ben Widger–is among the 10 winners of the WorldWide Storefront competition for art & architecture. They will present their project, the Spectacle Syndicate, an itinerant event venue located on the back of a traveling truck, in the fall.
WorldWide Storefront was created to anticipate future modes of cultural production by presenting experimental cultural works on a global scale from local points of view. Applicants were invited to imagine alternative curatorial visions within their particular context and defy traditional boundaries of gallery, pavilion or cultural institution. They were also encouraged to propose innovative ways to digitally engage global audiences.
This summer the Circus for Construction will build a custom semi- trailer that will unfold for temporary exhibitions, lectures and workshops. From September 19 to November 21 all the winning projects will present exhibitions and events at their sites throughout the world. The Spectacle Syndicate will stop in 5 cities–Ithaca, Providence, Provincetown, Portland, Buffalo and Boston–hosting forums, exhibits and workshops coordinated with local experts.
