Leif Estrada (MLA/MDes '14) has won the 2014 Howard T. Fisher Prize for Excellence in GIS (Graduate Category) for his entry, “Temporal Morphology: Synthetic Growth and Natural Decline of Alameda Island.” This project also earned Estrada an honorable mention in the 2014 National Geographic Award in Mapping Competition. It is in relation to his MDes thesis looking at the "natural" and "synthetic" production of landscape and ecology.

The Howard T. Fisher Prize for Excellence in Geographic Information Science was established in 1999 to promote and reward student work in this broad and potentially interdisciplinary area, for both undergraduate and graduate students at Harvard University. The 2014 Prize is given to one graduate and one undergraduate student who were enrolled in the academic year 2013-2014 and in good standing and carries a cash award of $500 each.
