The Architectural League of New York has awarded Luis Callejas, Lecturer in Landscape Architecture, the 2013 Architectural League Prize. Luis is founder and director of Lcla Office based in Cambridge, Massachusetts and Medellin, Colombia. His practice, positioned at the intersections of the fields of landscape, architecture, and urbanism, explores “new forms of public realms through environmental and territorial operations.” His Tactical Archipelago project in Kiev, Ukraine reconsiders 37 islands in the city’s Dnieper River as places for recreation, ecological infrastructure, and transportation through a series of micro-clusters inserted on the river’s surface providing itinerant zones of activities and services. More recent  projects include the Aquatic Center for the 2010 South American Games and the renovation of the central soccer stadium in Bogota, Colombia.

Luis will be presenting his work on Thursday, June 27 in a public lecture.

The 2013 Architectural League Prize is one of North America’s most prestigious awards for young architects and designers. Established in 1981, it recognizes specific works of high quality and encourages the exchange of ideas among young people who might otherwise not have a forum.
