GSD Webcasts

Browser Plugin Test Page

Design School webcasts require the QuickTime player or plugin, available at www.apple.com.

Alternately, you can use RealNetworks' RealPlayer, if you have it. You can download it free from their website. You will need to make sure you have the LATEST version - RealPlayer 10

For more information on RealPlayer and streaming content, see below

We recommend QuickTime over Real, as it is smaller, cleaner and better integrated with web browsers.

Your browser may very well already have QuickTime installed.

To confirm your installation of QuickTime, follow these steps:

First, you should see a movie of animated seaweed below:

If you do, this means you have the QuickTime plugin installed and you're ready to view online content.

Next, try to connect to a Quicktime Movie broadcast from the GSD's QuickTime Streaming Server. click here. (This may pop up a separate QuickTime viewer window, depending on your plugin configuration....)

Finally, try to connect to the current webcast, by returning to the current broadcast page.

If you cant get the above to work, you have to fiddle with connections a bit, and then contact helpdesk to see if the problem is unique to your configuration.

If you got the above to work, you should be fine to see the GSD webcast lectures.

Troubleshooting RealPlayer

Upon clicking on a link to view streamed content, some users have experienced odd behavior from RealPlayer, including messages like this:

Which, when you click "ok", is followed by this:

RealPlayer will then complain that either there is no method available to display the content, or will simply sit idle until you try to load the link again, and then the above process will be repeated.

The best solution for this problem is to upgrade to the latest version of RealPlayer, as of this writing, it's version 10. You can do that from www.real.com.
