Moving and Furnishings
What you decide to bring depends on the size of your apartment or dormitory room, and the costs of shipping. Often graduating students sell furnishings for great prices - check the bulletin boards! Students also advertise on the GSD's global student email listserv. Another great source for used furniture is the publication, The Want Advertiser, which comes out on Tuesdays. People list all kinds of furniture, bikes and everything else you could possibly need (and more) for a great discount. It can be found at stores like CVS, gas stations and at newsstands. You may need to rent a car to pick up furniture, but it can be worth it. The people advertising generally expect to be paid in cash.
There is also the MIT Student Furniture Exchange at 350 Brookline Street, Cambridge, (617) 253-4293. The Furniture Exchange serves members of the MIT, Harvard, Suffolk University and Boston University communities. A current ID from one of these schools is required for purchases.
