Design Critic in Urban Planning and Design

Fred Merrill, FAICP, is a senior planner with 37 years of national experience planning and designing urban districts, corridors, neighborhoods, and central businesses districts; master planned communities and mixed-use developments; and repurposing brownfields, military bases, and former industrial sites.

Fred leads complex planning processes and promotes collaboration between the client, multiple stakeholders, and professional disciplines while moving the project forward to desired outcomes. He works closely with private, public, and institutional clients to understand their project measures of success and creates a planning process to achieve their goals. His projects are based on strong planning and design ideas, concepts, and best practices that utilize the latest technology for analysis, illustration, communication, and public engagement.

Fred has a Master in City Planning and Master of Science in Architectural Studies from MIT. He is a Principal with Sasaki Associates.
