Sheila O’Donnell

Sheila O’Donnell studied architecture at University College Dublin. She was awarded a Masters degree from the Royal College of Art London, winning the Basil Ward Award for best graduating student. She is a studio lecturer at UCD. In 1988 she set up O’Donnell +Tuomey in partnership with John Tuomey. Their Dublin based practice has developed an international reputation for its engagement with complex urban situations and sensitive landscapes, for cultural, social and educational projects. O’Donnell + Tuomey have won the RIAI Gold Medal and the AAI Downes Medal. They have been shortlisted four times for the RIBA Stirling Prize and exhibited at the Venice Biennale. Recent buildings include the Glucksman Gallery Cork, Timberyard Social Housing Dublin, the Lyric Theatre Belfast and the Photographers’ Gallery London. Current work includes the New Students Centre at the London School of Economics and the Central European University Budapest.  Sheila O’Donnell is a board member with Rough Magic Theatre Company and is a member of Aosdana, the affiliation of artists in Ireland.
