Recruiting Policy for Employers

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), as amended in 2004, generally requires covered employers to pay employees at least the federal minimum wage for all hours worked, and overtime premium pay of time-and-one-half the regular rate of pay (or time-and-one-half leave hours) for all hours worked over 40 in a single workweek. GSD Career Services has set policies regarding student employment in line with the FLSA. We cannot post jobs in for-profit settings as unpaid or “volunteer” opportunities.

Our expectation is that students will be compensated at a fair market rate. The hourly wage must be at least the prevailing minimum wage. Federal law requires that students working summers or during the academic year are paid time-and-one-half for overtime.
