Daniel Hernandez is the Executive Director of Mission Housing Development Corporation, a community based, non-profit organization in San Francisco, California. Since 1992, Mr. Hernandez has been responsible for the development of two community resource centers and over 400 units of affordable housing for low income families, seniors, the formerly homeless, people with HIV/AIDS, and other special needs populations. These developments include rehabilitation and new construction of residential and mixed-use buildings in a culturally diverse, predominantly Latino neighborhood. Mr. Hernandez's implementation of a resident program as a critical component of property management has increased tenant participation in community activities, linking them to neighborhood services as a foundation toward self-sufficiency. Buildings for which Mr. Hernandez has been responsible have received design and management awards from the San Francisco American Institute of Architects, National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Organizations, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. He has also received the Hispanic Hero Award from KQED, the region's public media station, for his commitment to community building. Mr. Hernandez has been appointed to a variety of public policy bodies and lectures regularly on housing and community development. He serves on the Board of Directors of Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California, Council of Community Housing Organizations, and the San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association.
