Cara McCarty is the Curator of Decorative Arts and Design at the Saint Louis Art Museum. This field is broad and includes the objects, places and cities that people use and live in. She sees her role as helping to educate a public that is increasingly engaged in the individual and corporate processes of making design decisions. She is particularly dedicated to the outreach activities of the Museum where she works to bring designers into direct contact with youth and adults throughout St. Louis. Her exhibits have ranged from Japanese textiles to masks to an extensive examination of the architecture of Tadao Ando. Cara has been used a major resource by the city of St. Louis in its designer selection processes as well as its public urban design activities. As a Loeb Fellow, Cara will study the theory and practice of architecture and urbanism.
