Summer 2012

Laura Gilmore (MUP 2013), spent her 2012 summer working for the Environment and Transportation division of the City of Cambridge’s Community Development Department. Laura’s main project for the summer was working on many aspects of the launch of the Hubway regional bicycle share system in Cambridge including regional coordination meetings, site planning, internal coordination and tracking, permitting, finances, outreach, graphics and mapping, and a regional launch celebration held in early August.

Laura will continue to support the City of Cambridge throughout the year to continue some of the large research and writing projects she began over the summer.  In particular, she will continue to work towards the submission of the city’s Bicycle Friendly Community application and will work with staff to revise the Cambridge Bicycle Plan. She is also hoping to complete and publish a white paper of design guidelines for cycle tracks.

Laura’s experience was funded by the GSD’s Community Service Fellowship Program.
