Clark Art Institute
Landscape Architect: Gary Hilderbrand Location: Williamstown, Massachusetts, United States
The Clark Art Institute affords visitors and scholars the rare experience of confronting some of the world’s great paintings and decorative arts within a thoroughly pastoral setting in the Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts. The Clark has commissioned Tadao Ando Architect and Reed Hilderbrand to develop plans for expansion of the museum’s exhibition space, its internationally respected conservation center, its educational facilities, and its many varied public functions.
Reed Hilderbrand is also responsible for landscape planning of the museum’s entire 140 acres. The project builds on the site’s dramatic and memorable qualities and aims to extend the visitor experience to a more complete engagement of forest, meadow, ponds, and streams. Construction of the first phase is expected to begin in 2003. Team: Tadao Ando Architect; the Rise Group; Zubatkin Associates; Gensler Associates; Vincent Guntlow Associates
