Any Alternative Futures are the product of the interaction of private and public (i.e. Township and County) actions over time. There are substantial County and Township interventions in landscape and infrastructure policy which can influence future urban pattern. The following were considered to be the components which, when selectively combined, generate each Alternative Future: Conservation "A"

The 'Landscape Synthesis' map combines the Geologic, Biologic, and Visual Landscape Evaluations, identifying those natural areas most vulnerable to impacts from development. It is important to emphasize that the three processes are not independent, but rather interdependent components of landscape structure and pattern. A change in one will affect the other two. On the map, tan signifies areas sensitive to geologic impact, pink signifies areas of biologic impact, and the lighter blue signifies areas of visual sensitivity. Areas of more than one concern are shown in their respective additive colors, while dark blue shows the areas of geological, biological, and visual concern. These are the most sensitive landscapes in Monroe County.
